President : I never fear, hesitate to make decisions

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has said he never feared and hesitated to make decisions so long as the measures were taken for the interests of all parties.

The head of state made the remark at Al Habib Ali Alhabsyi`s muslim council of the Indonesian Islamic Centre in Kwitang area, Central Jakarta, on Sunday.

The president said he frequently learned comments that he was coward and doubtful, and showed no firm stance in making decisions.

“It is not true. The policies I make and apply are for the national interest. Proposals from all parties get proper valuation,” he said.

Yudhoyono said he however feared if his decisions were against rules of Allah (God), moreover he was afraid if the decisions were made only for personal or group interest.

“I also worry about my decisions which might have been against the constitution, laws and regulations,” he said.

The president pointed out that his commitment to eradicating corruption in the country showed that he did not hesitate to make decisions.

“Whoever the corruptor is, regardless of his or her status as a government official, must face legal actions,” he said.

The president said the Indonesian government`s effort to develop the country and cope with the huge amount of debts was made among others by stopping cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The other decision the government had made concerned the budget allocations to the education and health sectors for the people`s welfare, he said, adding that the government had also made decisions on efforts to overcome poverty and develop small- and medium-scale enterprises
